Flynas' new initiatives to empower women
RIYADH — Saudi Arabian airline company and leading low-cost carrier in the Middle East region Flynas launched its first 'Let's Talk Aviation' ...
Flynas has the IATA code of XY and is a low cost carrier that originates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in The Middle East. Flynas is headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and operate an all Airbus fleet which consists of 27 A320-200.
Currently Flynas is the only budget airline that flies domestically within in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which ties in with their slogan as "The Kingdom's First Low-Cost Airline". Each of Flynas aircraft carry a total 164 passengers, eight business class passengers and 156 economy class passengers.
Flynas was launched in 2007 and back then they operated under the name of Nas Air. In November 2013 the airline changed their name from Nas Air to Flynas. One year later in November 2014 Paul Byrne was appointed the CEO for Flynas and remains as the CEO of the airline today.
Flynas has a total of 72 routes that they currently serve. Majority of all flights are domestic services within Saudi Arabia, however Flynas also operate a number of high frequency flights in the Middle East on popular regional international services such as Riyadh to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, and Egypt.
Flynas with their fleet of 29 aircraft are able to operate more than 1,000 flights a week and after the unveiling of their new brand and their new identity in 2013, they launched a dedicated Business Class Cabin which enabled Flynas to increase their yield and earnings and customers saved significant dollars compared to competing carriers.
Flynas have won The Middle East’s Leading Low Cost Airline for World Travel Awards 2015, and also the 2015 Airline of the Year for Supporting Tourism in the Arab World.
Being punctual as an airline is rated by OTP, which stands for Online Time Performance not only does this makes happy customers, but also helps to keep down costs. An airline such as Flynas will pay an airport for every minute that they are on stand. Airlines will pay even more if they are on stand outside of their scheduled arrival or departure time. So for every minute that Flynas is not flying they lose money and if they are late they lose even more. Flynas always have the lowest fares so they need to ensure they keep costs low, but not compromising their service. With this Flynas became the first Saudi airline to display their 'On-Time Performance' this coupled with the fact that they offer the lowest fares and friendly customer service, ensures customers return to fly again and again.
Low cost airlines mostly make their money from selling you ancillary items or charging you for the basics that you normally get with a full service carrier such as baggage. This is where Flynas stand out as Flynas are generous and provide a 20 kilo baggage allowance in economy class for checked in baggage. Flynas also have a frequent flyer program called naSmiles which allows customers to earn miles not only on flights but on the extras that you pay for.
Flynas has a codeshare arrangement with Pegasus Airlines from Turkey that they signed in 2016 this allows Flynas customers who are flying from Riyadh or Jeddah to connect via Istanbul to Trabzon, Ankara, Hatay, Antalya and Adana.
From June 2016 Etihad will be operating up to 6 codeshare services a day from Jeddah to Abu Dhabi and Riyadh to Abu Dhabi. Flynas under the codeshare agreement is allowed to place its ‘XY’ code on multiple Etihad Airways’ flights between Abu Dhabi and 20 destinations on the Etihad network.
17th January 2017 Flynas announced that later this year it aims to seek the regulatory approval to IPO, this would make Flynas the first Saudi Airline to be listed on the country’s stock exchange. Flynas is also wanting to finalise a deal to purchase 80 Airbus A320neo. The new aircraft will allow Flynas to serve new markets in Pakistan and India.
